State Proclamations for FD/MAS Awareness
FD/MAS Alliance is working to raise awareness for fibrous dysplasia, McCune-Albright syndrome. We’re also working to build support for this rare bone and endocrine disease community and ongoing rare medical research. As part of that effort, we are holding a State Proclamation campaign to get as many states as possible to recognize FD/MAS Global Awareness Week 2026. The goal of this campaign is to obtain a proclamation in every state recognizing February 20-27th as FD/MAS global awareness week.
What is a state proclamation?
A proclamation is a written letter that follows a specific format to convey a message. The letter explains why the official statement is necessary and often provides official recognition of a cause. These proclamations are issued by official state representatives, such as state governors or legislative bodies, whose authority gives recognition to the organization that requested the proclamation.
Why does it matter?
A proclamation can benefit an organization or community by bringing attention to that group and why they (we!) are important and impactful. By bringing attention to the issues we face as well as our population, we encourage legislators to consider our priorities and perspective when they vote on issues that are important to our community. Collectively, these proclamations also highlight that rare diseases aren’t rare and, more specifically, that our community is organized and ready to engage. This can be a powerful way to demonstrate that the FD/MAS community is research-ready and eager to advance our healthcare priorities.
Despite our lofty goal of 50 total proclamations, we believe this is attainable; however, we can’t do it without the help of you volunteers.
How can you help?
Request a proclamation in YOUR state! It’s fast and easy and we’ll help you each step of the way. To request a proclamation you must be a resident of the state where you are making the request. We need willing volunteers to request these proclamations and obtain them in time for FD/MAS Global Awareness Week in as many states as possible. Together, we can lift the whole of the rare disease community to new heights, but we need your help to do it.
If you are willing to volunteer, please complete the form below (this helps us track where we’ve had requests made). Thank you so much for considering contributing to this campaign!
