Fall 2026 FD/MAS Research Update
FD/MAS Alliance Research Update Featured a Study on Pain in FD/MAS
The FD/MAS Alliance hosted a virtual research update with featured speaker Dr. Jaymin Upadhyay of Boston Children’s Hospital. The session included a review of Dr. Upadhyay’s pilot study supported by the FD/MAS community on pain in fibrous dysplasia and McCune-Albright syndrome, as well as a Q&A session with attendees.
Pilot Study Identifies a Promising Approach for Pain in FD/MAS
Dr. Jaymin Upadhyay is one of the many scientific investigators partnering with the FD/MAS Alliance to help further our mission. Through collaboration, he has leveraged the FD/MAS Patient Registry and Team FD/MAS funding to secure a $3 million Peer Reviewed Medical Research grant to study pain in FD/MAS. Pain in Fibrous dysplasia/McCune-Albright syndrome (FD/MAS) remains poorly understood and inadequately managed due to uncertainties regarding clinical or biological drivers. Initial results from a pilot study published in Bone, a peer-reviewed academic medical journal, identified several pain-associated proteins in individuals with FD/MAS, suggesting that proteomic profiling may be a promising approach for discovering pain biomarkers. This study was the focal point of Dr. Upadhyay’s presentation during our Fall 2026 Research Update.
FD/MAS Alliance Prioritizes Patient-Centered Research
The Mission of the FD/MAS Alliance is to foster the development of evidence-based treatments by advancing research, providing education, and channeling the voices of individuals and caregivers with FD/MAS. Since 2015, we have funded $1.2 million in research projects and in May 2026, we held a successful FD/MAS Research Priorities Workshop that charted the future of fibrous dysplasia and McCune-Albright syndrome research. From a room full of stakeholders, six priority areas were identified including pain management, treatment options, craniofacial care, scientific understanding, reproductive health, and access to knowledgeable care.
