FD/MAS Federal Research Funding Initiative
The FD/MAS community of researchers and advocates continues forward with the Department of Defense Funding Opportunity
One of the most significant initiatives that FD/MAS Alliance continues to advance is the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP). The PRMRP is a major research opportunity that our team of advocates has unlocked for FD/MAS researchers through the US Department of Defense’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (DOD CDMRP). Thanks to the tireless efforts of advocates who met with their representatives, FD is among the disease topic areas again included in the 2021 defense appropriations language. This win unlocks the possibility of more significant funding streams than the FD/MAS community. It allows FD/MAS researchers into a pool of other designated disease area researchers who can compete for 370 million dollars of research funding.
What now?

FD/MAS Advocates Brittany Anderson and Shelley Hebert in DC for Rare Disease Week
Our community’s attention must now return to advocacy and the work of ensuring that FD is included in this appropriations bill for 2022’s budget. There’s no guarantee that FD/MAS research will receive funding or that we’ll have this opportunity again. What we do know is that we need to continue to thank our senators, tell our stories, and advocate for more research to continue to make these incredible opportunities continue to happen.
